Vintage Hand Carved Wooden Folk Art Dog Standing on All Four Marked ESTES For Your Folk Art Carvings Collection-DogCarving3 Details Description: A nice hand carved wood dog figure. The carving shows a dog standing on all four with its ears perked up and its short tail standing. The carving is very well done and shows the details of the dog's face, eyes, mouth, nose, tail, head and fur all over its body. The carving is does not appear to be colored and instead shows the wood with the carved lines to simulate the dog's fur giving the darker appearance of the exterior of the dog. These lines appear to also be soiled and thus contributing to the darker appearance. The piece is extremely well done by what we would categorize as an accomplished carver. This small carving (~5" long) shows a great deal of details which indicates the ability of the carver to work on miniatures with great accuracy. The carving is marked ESTES on the bottom of the dog's belly (see last two photos). This is a wonderful and extremely well-done piece of folk art carving to add to your Collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description. Date: Unknown. Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Size: The dog measures ~5" long, ~4 5/8" high to the top of the ears, ~3 1/2" high to the top of the tail, and is ~1 1/2" at its widest. The piece weighs ~3 ounces. Maker: Unknown. Marks: Marked ESTES in carved lettering on the under belly of the dog (see last two photos). Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Truly a nice and very well done miniature folk art carving, which would make a worthy addition to your collection. Condition: The carving is in very good condition, with no breaks, cracks, losses, or repairs. It does have minor bump and a few minor scratches to the body. The dog is lightly soiled giving it a darker coloring especially when looking at the carved lines simulating fur. Finally, one of the ears (the one on the right when looking at the dog's face) appear to have some minor losses to the edge, which we believe are original to the making, but you be the judge (see 8th photo for detail). Other than that, this is a great piece to add to your collection of folk-art wood carvings. Please see photos for additional condition information.
